Gardens

Every year National Garden Scheme gardens across England and Wales welcome over half a million visitors. Most gardens which open for the NGS are privately owned and open just a few times each year. Some gardens open as part of a group with the whole community involved. 

Details of opening days can change, please check the National Garden Scheme website before visiting.

Location: 3 miles south west of Amlwch.  Turn left immediately after Amlwch Town sign on A5025 from Benllech, follow signs for leisure centre and Lastra Farm. Description: A fairly new garden which blends seamlessly into the open landscape with stunning views of Snowdonia and Llyn Alaw. Good variety of shrubs and trees, large wildlife pond, meadow areas, polytunnel, vegetable garden and chicken run. Adjacent sheltered paddock garden. Formal pond and patio area, raised beds. All year round interest, Apr for spring bulbs, May and June for aquilegias, roses etc. Hay meadow best seen in June.

Description: Not a large garden, but packed with plants and ideas. Mini orchard, soft fruit area, herbaceous beds, wild area with bug hotel and many paths and pots. Very bird and bee friendly. Cottage garden with modern twist built on slope which has to withstand wind and salt

Description: Walled garden of 1¾ acres. Physic and herb gardens, ornamental vegetable garden, herbaceous borders, water features and many varieties of old roses. Sheep, ponies, rabbits and hens to see. Children must be kept under supervision. Llanidan Church will be open for viewing.

Description: Front garden slopes gently towards the observer, offering manicured lawn embraced by appealing shrubs and delectable roses, whilst behind the bungalow awaits a cornucopia of colour, a Mediterranean medley and a fine example of self sufficiency in a suburban setting.

Description: New plantswomans garden developed and designed over the last 6yrs incl circular 'Mariners Compass' pebble mosaic surrounded by a 'Colour Spectrum' border palnted with mostly herbaceous perennials. Also collection of climbing plants on arches and a pergola. Wide collection of unusual plants including penstemons, hemerocallis, shrub roses and alstromerias. Small vegetable plot and fruit trees.

Description:
 Plas Newydd is a beautiful C18th country house with spectacular panoramic views across the Menai Strait to Snowdonia. Set in beautiful gardens, there are tranquil walks, an Australasian arboretum and a pretty Italianate Terrance Garden. The house is also famous for its association with the 1st Marquess of Anglesey.

Description: Small cottage garden of less than an acre. Overlooked by the Marquess of Anglesey’s Column. Carefully designed and planted on 3 levels with many interesting plants, careful planting ensures colour throughout the year, incl snowdrops in February.

Description: Early C19 Picturesque garden that has been undergoing restoration since 1996. Work still ongoing, but much to see incl valley garden with waterfalls, large walled garden (now an ornamental garden with herbaceous planting) and early pit house. Some steps, gravel paths and steep slopes.

Red Wharf Bay - Ty Gwyn, Llanbedrgoch LL76 8NX

Adjacent to several SSSIs, incl Cors Goch, an International Wetlands Nature Reserve.
