Tracing your family history?
Do you think you might have family connections on Anglesey? Were you evacuated here during the war?
If this is the case, and you are interested in tracing your roots here on the island, you will be glad to know that Anglesey offers its own service to help genealogists.
Such research can be immensely rewarding - but it can also be very time consuming. In order to maximise your time and to allow you to get out and about to enjoy the island and visit those very places that your ancestors hailed from, preparation is the key.
All are welcome without appointments but we do advise advance booking if you want to use records on microfilm or microfiche such as the census returns. If you can do this before your planned holiday, so much the better! You are advised to bring along as much information as possible, paying particular attention to details of dates, places and the people whom you hope to trace.
The office is a member of a national reader's ticket system (CARN). We do not turn anyone away without a ticket and can issue a day ticket. For a CARN ticket, which lasts for four years, users need to bring official document/s with name, address and signature. There is no charge for the CARN ticket, no photograph is necessary and we issue it when people visit the office.
We all produce potential archives either at work or in our private lives just by writing or photographing something. Each item is unique whether a minute book, plan or a letter and so special steps have to be taken to look after them. As you enter the public searchroom we ask you to leave your bags in lockers and to sign a register. Once in the searchroom you complete a request slip and the staff bring the documents to you. Please use pencils when looking at the document.
Staff at the office are friendly and helpful and highly experienced in assisting with genealogical enquiries from all over the world and will be pleased to help you with your research.
