Explore the Menai Straits with a boat ride. There are regular departures from the Victorian pier in Beaumaris and Menai Bridge. This is one of the best ways to experience some of the huge variety of wildlife that thrive on Anglesey’s seas and shores.
Named Ynys Seiriol in Welsh, after the 6th century saint who founded a monastery there, Puffin Island is now a sanctuary for huge numbers of seabirds. During the breeding season between April and July you can expect to spot species like guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and (of course) puffins, while cormorants and shags can be seen all year round. Alongside the feathered inhabitants, there’s a native population of grey seals, plus porpoises and even the occasional dolphin.
Lunch or dinner: Beaumaris has many options for home-cooked pub classics and cafe's.
