Route description
From the slipway follow a hedged path to come out at the harbour. Walk along the quay past the watchtower. Walk up the right-hand side of the Sail-loft café. Cross the road and follow the lane to the car park. Go through the car park, and out onto the path. Go through a kissing gate behind the house and follow a path through an area of heath around the inlet Llam Carw up to a kissing gate. Follow a well worn path and over a couple of small foot-bridges. Go through a gate at a wall. Keep following the path, over a drain and down a couple of steps. Cross a boundary wall, to come out through a gate at Ffynnon Eilian. Cross a stream, go up a hill, through a gate, cross a field and through another gate. Go up a set of stone steps, and down the hill to a small bridge and gate.
At Porthyrychen go over another small bridge and through a gate. Bear left around the edge of the proceeding field, over a stile and descend to an area of gorse. Go through a kissing gate to join an enclosed path which brings you round into Porth Eilian. Go through another gate to come out on the road.
Pass the slipway down to the beach and bear left in front of the white house up the road. Cross the cattle grid and follow the lane. Before the entrance to Point Lynas turn right onto a path (there are paths onto Point Lynas itself). Follow the wall on your right, through the kissing gate, and just before the telegraph poles bear right. Cross a field down to the coast, and up to a gate at Porth y Corwgl. Go up the hill, through a kissing gate, and follow the coast bearing left at Ogo’r Rhedyn.
Descend into a dip over a stile, out into a field and through a gate. Bear right and you will cross a bridge over a stream at Freshwater Bay. Ascend the hill, coming out into a field and generally walk parallel with the coast. Pass over a small foot bridge in a dip, and ascending and descending a couple of rises you will pass a public path to the coast. Carry on down the hill, bearing left to cross two drainage ditches, and walk across the field. Walk down some steps and across a foot-bridge, and bear right up a hill to a gate at the back of Porthygwichiaid. Head through the gate and pick up the wall on your right. After crossing a drain, bear left towards the coast.
Follow the coast, through a gap in the wall, and keeping close to the coast go through a gap in the bottom of a fence. Pass over a couple of small footbridges below Rhos-Mynach Isaf, and cross a steep grassy bowl, up to a gate. Cross another path, and through a gateway, heading towards the coast again. Follow the left-hand field boundary, cross a stream at Porth yr Aber, up a set of steps and along the bottom of a field. At a line of pine trees turn inland and follow the field boundary up through a kissing gate and over three stiles. Joining a track carry straight on, over a narrow stile, and over another stile to come out on a lane by a house.
Carry straight on, past Keeper’s Lodge on the right, and just after some outbuildings, and before Plas Uchaf on the right, turn left through an old farmyard. Come out into a field and follow the hedge on your left, to through a gate and onto a lane. Head left.
Follow the lane, past Llangwenllwyfo Church, across the Dulas Estate drive, to the end where you join Dulas Estuary. Turn right, cross a drainage ditch, by Coch Willan Bach and follow the banks of the estuary past Min y Don. You will go through a car park and join a lane. Fairly shortly turn left (before the house on the right), over a small footbridge and through a gate. Cross a larger footbridge and cross an area of marshland to two gates. Walking parallel to a low lying area of marsh, head for the large bridge. At a pair of stone gateposts turn left and cross the bridge through the two gates. Walk up the field, following the hedge on your left, bearing left at the top to come to a track. Go through the kissing gate, along a track and turn right along the drive to Pentre Eiriannell. At the main road turn left, and left again at the Pilot Boat Inn, through a gate and up the field with the field boundary on your left.
At the top of the field through a gate, and carry straight on along a track. At the top of a track go through another gate and across a field passing to the left of a pond. You’ll begin to descend, through another gate, and past a gateway. Bear left around a small, fenced enclosure and head down the hill towards the right house to a kissing gate. Go through the gate, bear right along a fenced path, between the house and a garage to come out on a lane.
Turn left along the lane, and at a fork in the road (at Tan y Banc house) take the right-hand fork (roughly straight on). At Penrhyn bear left and left again onto a path. Follow the enclosed path to come out at Traeth yr Ora. Turn right, part way down the steps, then bearing right, up a set of steps and through a gate. Bear left keeping to the edge of the field and follow the coastline. Go through a gate and bear right along the fenced path. Drop down onto Porth y Môr beach and then up a set of steps off the beach back onto a fenced path. Go past the lookout at Trwyn Porth y Môr, cross a small footbridge through a kissing gate, down and up a set of steps, to come out at Lligwy. Cross the car park, bearing right along a path along the edge of dunes. Go over a concrete footbridge, and then a large footbridge. Make your way straight on through the dunes (numerous paths that bring you out in the same place) to come out at another car park with toilets and café.
Cross the car park, pass to the left of the café and pick up the path heading east. Go down and up a set of steps, across a revetment following an enclosed path. Go through a kissing gate, along the left-hand edge of a field behind Porth Forllwyd, through another gate, bearing left by the house. Follow the wall round; go through another gate, along a fenced path, to bear right following the coast. Go through the site of an old quarry, down and up some steps, and you’ll come to a path on the right that takes you to the Royal Charter memorial. Carry straight on, down some steps, crossing a couple of streams, up some steps and through a gate into a caravan site.
Look for a kissing gate to your left and follow an enclosed section until you reach another kissing gate and it opens up onto the headland, overlooking Ynys Moelfre. You can bear left to go around the headland if you wish. Coming off the headland you join the shore at Y Swnt.
Cross the back of the shore, to pick up a surfaced path. Bear right, crossing a drive to follow the surfaced path past the Lifeboat Station and the Seawatch Centre. Pass the old Lifeboat station, past a row of cottages, bearing right to join the road at Porth Moelfre.
Turn left along the road to arrive at the seafront in Moelfre village.
